Hawg Haven and the Hairy Bikers

13/11/2008

TV celebrity chefs The Hairy Bikers have commissioned city-based custom kings Hawg Haven to build two very special choppers for their Christmas special.

It's not the first time Hawg Haven has hit the headlines, as it built a bike for Long Way Round star Charley Boorman earlier this year, following a chance meeting at an awards evening.

That means it's a busy time for the company, based at Norwich Airport Industrial Estate, which was started by its two directors Jon Quantrell and Terry Clarke, both 48, in 2002.

Mr Quantrell said: “I cannot tell you how much the two bikes are costing to make or how much they are paying for them, but it's quite a coup for a city company like us.

“Dave and Si have a wealth of biking experience between them, which will result in two stunning machines. They have both had a big part in the design process.”

Both presenters are adamant the bikes will be well-used, and Dave said: “These bikes are for life and we're going to ride them. This is a dream come true for both of us and we don't do anything for the sake of it

“We want our show to be a proper Christmas special, and nothing could make it more special than riding the bikes of our dreams.”

Dave's “Myers Superior” is a classic Brough Superior styled chop with a modern twist.

Si's “King Chopper” on the other hand will have a more modern look based around a proper chopper format.

The machines won't be lacking in horse-power either thanks to 100 cubic inch Xzotic motors fitted with generator cam covers.

Charley Boorman is returning to Norwich next month to meet Hawg Haven staff and the company hopes it could lead to 10 other bikes being built as Charley Boorman signature bikes.

The Hairy Bikers' Christmas special is due to air on Tuesday, December 23 at 8pm on BBC2.
