Hairy Bikers Update

04/03/2009

We all know the familiar faces of Si King and Dave Myers the famous chefs who go all over producing some of the most mouth watering creations you have ever seen.

We first met them in 2008 when they were doing some stuff with Nick Sanders and of course we had to introduce ourselves, I just had to find out if they are as genuine and down to earth as they seem on the telly.

We had an interesting chat about bikes and realized just what enthusiasts they are and talked about how they would feel about us building them both a bike, they seemed keen so we exchanged numbers and left it at that. I contacted them again and they started talking about what they like and disliked and soon I realized we needed to meet up with them again.

We arranged a meeting with them in London and we talked about bikes as usual for hours. The then informed us that they would really like to use the bikes in their Christmas Special which was of course amazing and scary but also meant that we were on a time limit which I suppose we are used to, so the adrenaline started pumping yet again.

It appeared that although their tastes were similar they had very individual ideas of what they wanted the bikes to look like. Si decided that he wanted a certain paint scheme so he had numerous conversations with John Fox our painter extraordinaire and very quickly they got on the same wavelength and the creation was started on. Dave told us that he would really like his bike to be based on the Brough Superior, the bike that Lawrence of Arabia rode, so we got some info together and started work.

The boys then came to see us at our shop in Norwich and we were able to show them the first dry build to see how they liked there riding positions etc. They were very happy with what we had done so far, Si decided that he really wanted hanger bars so e made notes and took various measurements. Dave seemed happy but just had a few tweaks here and there.

After much anticipation the day had come for the boys to come back down to Norwich to see the finished creations, ‘Dave’s Superior’ and Si’s ‘King Chopper’ were almost ready for the grand unveiling.

They came to the shop and we still had a bit of work to do but we managed to keep them amused with a lot of our close friends and family that just happened to pop in on the same day that the boys were there! I think the numerous coffees and bacon sarnies also helped keep them busy!! They were finally called down to the workshop to meet their new babies, the cameras were flashing and the excitement was building and then we unveiled them. There was a really strange silence for about 10 seconds until they exploded with a few choice words and it was clear that they were gob smacked, I am sure I saw a tear in their eyes but I won’t mention it again! They said they were absolutely fantastic and after lots and lots and lots of hugs and thankyous I think we can safely say ‘job well done!’
